Right, so lots of happenings around the Thunderhome these days.
Mostly, the wife is pregnant and we’re having our first kid round about the end of the year. We also recently found out our first child is to be, as Luca Brasi would say, a masculine child. So that’s pretty badass.
Now as a result of that, I’ve sold my XJ12, and it’s slated to head to it’s new home on Thursday. I got a pretty good price for it, and about 1/3 of it is headed straight to home improvements...not necessarily ‘baby’ stuff, but a new fake hardwood floor, new tv, and new couches are on the list.
Some of it is going to paint my P71, which is cool. I’m heading to Pick N Pull this weekend to try and source some body parts that will make the job a little bit cheaper...I’ve got a dented fender, a broken bumper cover, and a trunk filled with antenna holes to replace.
A little bit of it is going to my wife, so she can buy herself something nice, cause I have to be a good husband at some point I guess?
Lastly, I’m looking to take on another project car. See, this time last year I had my Jag and my ‘69 Corvair. When I sold the Corvair, I didn’t buy another car, which is weird for me...in my little world, selling a car means buying a car. So now that I’m selling the second of my toys, I can’t get nothing out of that car as well. I explained it to the wife, she gets it, so I’m clear to shop.
I’ve been looking mostly at Fox body Mustangs, but recently something else has struck my fancy: first generation Mustangs. 6 cylinder coupes are pretty plentiful, and runners can be had for reasonable prices. But then I found this guy:

A!
It’s a ‘67 notchback, originally a 6 cylinder 3 speed car from Texas, now with a 302 and an automatic. The big deal to me here is that it runs and drives, and it’s relatively complete but incomplete enough that it’ll take me a long while to finish it. And it’s available for quite a bit less than I sold my Corvair for, which is nice.
The plan would be for a vintage Trans Am Series look...possibly painted bright blue to resemble a Dan Gurney-driven ‘68 notchback that I own in slot car form:
Mostly, I’d just be happy to have a running/driving project to mess with.
So the hope is that the transaction for the Jag goes smoothly on Thursday (the last guy backing out has me spooked, but this guy is the real deal) and then I can set to getting myself a Mustang of some sort. If not that one, another one will show up...but I do like that ‘67.

I like it. The parts are plentiful and you can build it however you like without breaking the bank plus when it’s time to sell it you know there will be buyers out there.

That's what I'm thinking. I mean there's really not much I can do to it to make it worth less than it is right now. If I can make it halfway decent (and honestly, it's already halfway halfway decent), I can probably always get back a largish percentage of my money.

YES!!!!!! I also want to build a similar machine. Magnesium american racing wheels a bit of lightening some serious brakes and a V8 that revs to the moon. ITB would be excellent money bags amount of money addition.

Exactly what I’m talking about. Just seems like it would be fun as hell to hoon...doesn’t weigh anything, get maybe 350hp in a car like this and you’re doing something.
The second picture is basically my vision entirely, haha.
